Description: An extremely rare Russian porcelain compote from the Mikhailovskii Service, made by the Imperial Porcelain Factory in ST Petersburg, circa 1840, during the reign of Tsar Nicholas I. Of circular form, the outer bowl, rim, stem and foot gilded, the underside of the bowl decorated with a border of green and gilded arabesques.

The service was made for the palace of that name, built for Grand Duke Michael Pavlovich, Alexander I and Nicholas Is youngest brother. Height x 8 3/4 in. Diameter (8.9 x 22.2 cm).
