Antique 19thC Royal Worcester Brown Ivy Elephant Porcelain Lid Tureen Bowl Dish
Antique 19thC Royal Worcester Brown Ivy Elephant Porcelain Lid Tureen Bowl Dish. Today we are happy to offer for sale a wonderful antique 19th century Royal Worcester porcelain transfer-ware lidded tureen! Royal Worcester was established in 1751 and is believed to be the oldest or second oldest remaining English porcelain brand still in existence today. This elegant lidded soup tureen dates to 1883 (body) and 1885 (lid).

The tureen is finely crafted and detailed. The piece features a molded oval body with curved lid and applied elephant head handles, with four decorative feet and dragon talon Asian-inspired lid pull. The handles and pull feature a hand-painted brown and gilt color scheme. The detailing was no doubt inspired by England's presence in India and also the popularity of the Royal Brighton Pavilion, an exotic palace in the centre of Brighton with a colorful history and built as a seaside pleasure palace for King George IV.

The body and lid feature a transfer-ware black/brown ivy motif. The piece is marked on lid and bottom and additionally on one of the feet. Tureen presents beautifully and is in very good antique condition, with very minor wear and patina commensurate with age and use. There is very minor expected loss to painted finish on handles and feet.

The underside of lid has one small chip (which is nearly invisible once lid is on tureen). Add old English Victorian charm and elegance to any fine antique porcelain collection with this beautiful tureen... Fresh to the market from a Rhode Island estate!
