A Fine White Porcelain Bowl With Carved Lions Arita ware. , late 17th century finely potted fine milky white porcelain of circular form with a wide lobed rim and gently curved sides raised on foot, the cavetto finely carved in relief with wide lappet panels depicting a pair of lions among sprays of bamboo issuing by rockwork, the plain underside, some kiln-grit adhering to the footring, the base set with a spar mark, some manufacturing imperfections to the glaze, partly soiled. The white Kakiemon porcelain bowl is thought to have been manufactured in Arita in the late 17th century for home consumption. An identical example is in the Shibata Collection, although the current lot does not bear an iron-brown glazed rim. 15.9 cm (6.25 in) maximum cross diameter, 4.5 cm (1.77 in) maximum high.
